March 9, 1940 ~ March 31, 2025
Betty Ann Jukniewicz, 85, of Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the VA Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Betty was born on March 9, 1940, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo, the daughter of Glen and Gladys (Murdoff) Palmer. After her parents separated during her childhood, Betty's mother remained in Fargo while her father moved to Longview, WA. She graduated from Fargo Central High School and later enrolled at Concordia College, where she worked at a local drive-in to support her studies.
In 1960, she enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fitzsimons Army General Hospital in Aurora, Colorado where she met her husband, Edwin Jukniewicz. Following her honorable discharge, the couple moved to Hillside, NJ, where they were married on September 22, 1962, and raised their family, welcoming four children: Edwin, Bryan, Adam, and Andrea. In 1968, they moved to Iselin, NJ, where they continued to raise their family and welcomed the birth of their daughter, Alicia, in 1971.
After her divorce in 1978, Betty pursued her dream of higher education; she began studying at Middlesex Community College in Edison, NJ, earning her associate degree in accounting, and later continued her education at Rutgers University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1982.
In the late 1980s, Betty returned to the Fargo-Moorhead area and became an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, participating in the Christian Mothers group. From 2013 until 2024, she dedicated herself to her job in the deli department at CashWise in Moorhead.
Betty had a passion for crafts, often seen cross stitching beautiful pieces and creating Christmas ornaments for her loved ones. A skilled seamstress, she made clothing for her children and crafted numerous baptismal gowns for her church community. Her commitment to helping others was evident in her volunteer work with the Fargo VA and the Salvation Army.
Betty will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, kind heart, and the lasting friendships she made in Fargo and Moorhead.
She is survived by her children, Edwin A. Jukniewicz of Hackettstown, NJ, Bryan Jukniewicz of Toms River, NJ, Andrea (Thomas) Corrado of Sellersville, PA; two brothers, Paul (Gini) Thon of Frazee, MN, and Mark (Kim) Thon of Bowlus, MN; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her son, Adam Jukniewicz (2015); brother, Charles Palmer (2022); former husband, Edwin Jukniewicz (2024); and daughter, Alicia Jukniewicz (2024).
